Choosing A Career In Marketing

By Franklin Skribbit

Unless you were born with an eidetic memory, note taking will be a valuable skill in your college classes. The material is not always exciting and there is a lot of it so best be prepared. Here is a list to make you a better note taker.

Depending on your personality and preferences there are number of different directions that you can choose to go down.

The Analytical If numbers are your thing, and rarely this seems to be the case for most marketers you can delve into market research. Companies need to know their consumer if they are going to create products that sell. In order to gain this understanding companies will higher marketers who know their stuff when it comes to running surveys and tests and analyzing the accompanying statistics.

Third-Let your eyes be the master. Teachers are not trying to make things hard for students and they often format their syllabi so that the most important information is visible first. This allows students to cruise threw but also to renavigate when they have to.

This path also helps lead to a PHD and becoming a professor where you spend the majority of your time doing research. These positions are always needed and companies pay well for qualified individuals.

Google Drive - Well designed and free to use, Google Drive (formerly Google Docs) allows your classmates and you to collaborate by writing on a document together simultaneously. With a large storage capacity online this can be a great way to take notes and gain additional insights from your classmates. However, make sure that you copy and save the text on your personal computer in case something happens to it. Also make sure to select hardworking classmates to share with, otherwise you will suffer a collective goods dilemma.

Pen and Paper - I still see people using these and for good reason. Using Pen your pen can be very helpful when you need to draw diagrams from the lecture (I have seen smart computers and tablets but they still are not as easy to use as paper). If you are planning on writing make sure to do so efficiently.

Best of Both Worlds The good thing about marketing is that you don't have to choose to be creative or analytical. You can stand with a foot in both worlds. If that is what you want, study to become a brand manager. As the name implies you are in charge of a brand or family of brands. This includes everything from supply chain to promotions.

Essentially, it is like running your own company. You get to dip your foot in all aspects of business and marketing.

Ninth- Mark it up! There is something about marking a book that makes it yours and helps you master and remember material. If you are scared of defiling the book then putting stickynotes or other non-permanent reminders can help but it is crucial to mark it in the book because what you mark in the book is also marked in your mind.

Now, there are many more jobs that you can take if you choose to go down marketing, but the biggest takeaway is that marketing is not a soft science. Someone else's opinion should not be as good as yours. You need to worry about what is going on within the company and how you are competing without. The biggest difference between marketing and finance, accounting, or other careers is that you own the profit loss statement just as the CEO does. If your product is not doing well people will come to you. To get started in your career find the school that specializes in your interest. Head online and search from Idaho Falls Colleges to New York City Universities till you find it. Make the arrangements and get started. Choose marketing if you are a talented individual. Whether you follow an analytic route, a creative route, or a bit of both you need to bring your best to offer to a company.
