Using A Baltimore Machine Shop For The Parts You Need

By Grace Rivas

Every manufacturer needs quality parts of a certain size, shape and material that is not easy to find on the open market. Your engineers have designed the best product for your clients and it is up to you to find the pieces that go together to make it a reality. A Baltimore machine shop is in the best position to provide these parts, designed and manufactured to your specifications, for these applications.

Machine shops, in many people minds, have not kept up with technology. Many have taken up the idea that with extrusion technologies and 3D printing, they can fabricate everything they need. They would be wrong as the many parts that can be produced will represent a massive cost savings from either of these. Modifications can also be implemented faster and customer service is real time.

Quite a number of these shops are wholly owned business units of larger manufacturing concerns. They will often sell off part of their excess capacity to other companies, occasionally in the same industry. Some of these shops will be stand alone firms who will produce for anyone and some of them only work on specialized parts for certain industries.

A very good item that is often made in a machine shop is the case parts and bodies for such things as appliances or computers. The material, such as alloyed aluminum, steel or tin will come in the form of a roll. This makes it easier to handle and will be accommodated by the many machines needed for this part of fabrication.

Cutting the correct length and width of the material will be the first operation. The punch press will come into operation quickly as the recesses, screw holes and other openings are formed. With the proper die, the threading can also be accomplished during this operation. The pieces will come out of this press as a flat work and will move on to other processes.

The appliance cases, or other parts not undergoing punch press work, can be formed by using a metal brake to bend them into various angles. This will create what will then be attached together to make what is recognizable as the finished item. There will be room within these cases for all of the other parts, both mechanical and electrical, that makes the piece what it will be.

The professionals who work in these shops have the skills to produce many other things and perform many other tasks. They can use the machines to lathe metal pieces into the correct size and length to work as axles and specialty screws. They can bend, grind, burnish, shine, thread, cut and work with many pieces at a time to make sure you get what you are asking for.

The design phase has probably already happened and this is from your engineers. Now, let the Baltimore machine shop show you they know what it is you need and how fast they can provide it. Once their engineers get it, all of the imagination and design elements you need can be transformed into a piece of metal of just the correct size, shape and quality.
